Welcome to Soundtrack Apocalisse!
Jun 22nd, 2008 by Bryan White
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Soundtrack Apocalisse, presented to you by the fine folks at Cinema Suicide!
We’ve been talking about starting a site like this for a few months with Tim Fife, a regular movie reviewer for Cinema S, heading up the pack. Before I knew Tim as a fan of all things cinematic, trashy and European, I actually knew him as a musician with a love for Italian movie soundtracks. I’d consult him about what was good to listen to, which movies had the proggiest scores or best synth tones and he’d consult me on what was the trashiest movie out of Italy over the past forty years. It was a great feedback loop.
Though I’ll be overseeing this sister-site to Cinema Suicide, this is primarily going to be The Tim Fife Show. As much as I love the music of the movies I hold so dear, I’ll freely admit that the score is typically the last thing I notice in a movie if it even occurs to me at all. Weird, I know. I tend to address soundtracks as a separate entity to the movie, entirely. Music that, when taken out of context, becomes something else. Tim, on the other hand, is a walking encyclopedia of this stuff. He has some great reviews lined up for you and also has interviews planned with some of film music’s greatest heroes like Fabio Frizzi, Alan Howarth and the legendary Claudio Simonetti.
So stay tuned.

Hi Tim, thanks for making these interviews so interesting! I am starting to build an Italian soundtrack collection so the info is more than welcome! I am a big fan of the Maestro Morricone, as sooooo many people, but there are a lot of other great Italian composers! So I hope in the near future to see more tips and info on great soundtracks because although there could never be enough material made public my wallet does gives me restrictions so a selection has to be made! I hope that you could help me and many others to point out the gems! Thanks! Mirko
